Journey of Reflection is a participatory textile art series that invites young people to explore their inner landscapes through collective making. Rooted in themes of emotion, memory, and connection, the series creates a safe space for students to reflect on their experiences, navigate complex feelings, and express themselves through tactile, collaborative installation work. Guided by the belief that art can be both healing and empowering, this project brings the language of textiles to communities often left out of traditional art spaces.

I had the privilege of working with 25 secondary school students in Hong Kong as part of the Journey of Reflection textile installation workshop. This project, in collaboration with Arts for Good Foundation, aimed to bring the power of textile art to youth often left out of mainstream education systems—particularly those connected to NGOs or underrepresented communities.
This workshop wasn’t just about creating art—it was about creating space. A space where young people could explore their emotions, reflect on how those emotions evolve over time, and deepen their understanding of the complex systems that surround us. Through collaborative textile-making, I encouraged students to consider how we are all interconnected—emotionally, socially, and structurally.
I invited them to navigate this complexity, to express their unique voices, and to honor both individual and collective feelings throughout the process.
One of the most touching moments was seeing the students’ faces light up as they viewed their completed installation. The pride and surprise they felt reminded me just how transformative art can be when given room to grow within a supportive environment.

The Journey of Reflection workshop took place in December 2021, a year profoundly shaped by the ongoing impact of COVID-19. After months of isolation, uncertainty, and emotional turbulence, this project offered students a much-needed space to process and express their inner worlds. Through guided textile-making sessions, we worked closely with the kids to trace the emotional arc of their year—acknowledging moments of fear, resilience, hope, and transformation. The act of weaving and stitching became a metaphor for healing, allowing them to make sense of their experiences and find strength in their shared stories.
